See more than one calendar at once
If you are a parent in more than one family, or somebody in another family has shared their days with you, you can see those calendars drawn over the one you are reading instead of switching between them.
Before you start. The control appears only when there is something to lay over. With one family and nothing shared with you, there is nothing to show and the button is not there.
Lay another calendar over this one
On the web:
- Open the calendar.
- Select the calendars button among the calendar’s controls. It has no words on it. Look for sheets stacked on each other.
- Check the family, or the person, you want to see.
On a phone:
- Open the calendar.
- Select the same stacked-sheets button beside the month.
- Check a family, or a person under Shared with you, in the Calendars sheet.
A small dot on the button shows that something is drawn over the calendar. Untick to take it off. On the web the choice is part of the page’s address, so a bookmark or a refresh keeps it.
Your own other family
Their events appear alongside yours, marked with their children’s pictures so you can tell whose day it is at a glance. The color of each day, which says which home the children are in, stays the family’s you are reading. Another family’s days are never painted over it, because one day cannot be two colors.
In the lanes view, each of their children gets a row of their own.
On the web, opening one of their events opens it properly, and you can change it if you are a parent there. On a phone, their events are shown in gray and cannot be changed from there.
A calendar shared with you
Somebody in another family can share when they have their children. That appears under Shared with you, named for the person rather than a family, and it is a thin band along the bottom of each day: green when they are free, purple when they have their children. No names and nothing about their family, because that is all a share lets them give you. If they chose to share their events too, you see each one’s title and time when you open the day.
When you accept a share, it is turned on for you straight away. To turn it off or on again, use the calendars button, under Shared with you. Shares are not listed in the menu on your family’s name.
In the agenda, each day says it in words under your own plans: “Maria is free” or “Maria has their children”, with the same green or purple mark, and any events Maria shares with you.
When it does not work
There is no calendars button. You belong to one family and nobody has shared a calendar with you, so there is nothing to lay over. It appears the day either of those changes.
Their events are there but the days are the wrong color. They are not wrong. The color always belongs to the family whose calendar you opened. Switch to the other family to see its days colored instead, or use the lanes view, which answers per child.
The overlay is missing on your phone with no signal. Another family’s events, and calendars shared with you, are read live rather than kept on the phone, so they need a connection. Your own family’s calendar is still there.
Open this in Coparia, where you can search every article and ask about your own calendar.
