Who can see what

Last updated .

Coparia is built for two households sharing one calendar, so most things are shared by default. This is what each kind of person can see.

Your co-parent

Everything on the family calendar. Every event, the parenting schedule, the children, and who is responsible for what.

There is no way to hide an event from a co-parent, and that is deliberate rather than an omission. A shared calendar that can hide things is a calendar neither parent can rely on, and the point of this one is that both of you can plan from it without checking.

They cannot see your messages with anybody else, your notification settings, or your account.

Helpers

Only what you allow.

A helper always sees events they are responsible for. Beyond that, whether they see the parenting schedule is one switch on the Helpers page in Settings, applying to all helpers at once.

An event marked private is hidden from helpers, unless it is assigned to that helper, because otherwise they could not do the thing you asked them to do.

A helper always sees the Need to know card, and there is no setting to change that. A sitter who cannot read “allergic to peanuts” is a safety problem rather than a privacy preference. See what anybody looking after your children should know.

Helpers see your routines too, and can tick them off. A routine marked private is the one exception, and it is stricter than a private event: it is hidden from every helper, with nobody carved out, because a routine has no assignee the way an event does.

Calendars you follow

A followed calendar, such as a school or holiday calendar, is read only. Its events appear on your calendar in a quieter style and cannot be edited here. Nobody on the other end sees anything about your family. Following is one directional.

Calendars shared with you

If another family shares availability with you, you see whether they have their children on a given day. You do not see their events, their children’s names, or anything else about them.

What is recorded

Message history records when a message was opened. Any parent in the family can export the family record, which includes that history. The read-receipt setting on the Notifications page changes what the other person sees day to day, not what is kept.

When it does not work

A helper cannot see an event you expected them to. Check whether it is marked private, and check whether it is assigned to them.

Your co-parent says something is missing. It is not a permission problem, because they see everything you do. Ask them to refresh, and check you are both looking at the same family.

Open this in Coparia, where you can search every article and ask about your own calendar.
