Signing in with Apple

Last updated .

Continue with Apple sits under the password boxes on the sign in screen, below Continue with Google, and on the iPhone app’s sign in screen. The same button creates an account the first time and signs you in every time after that.

What happens if you choose Apple on an account that has a password

The password is removed, and Apple becomes the only way in from then on. This is the same rule as signing in with Google: an account has one way in, not two, and the change cannot be undone.

Forgot password will not bring it back. There is nothing to reset, because the account no longer has a password at all.

You are told at the moment it happens, on the screen and by email. If you have just typed a password and had it rejected, you are warned before the change rather than after.

Hide My Email, and why it matters here

The first time you use Apple with Coparia, Apple asks whether to share your email address or to hide it. If you hide it, Apple gives Coparia a made-up address ending in privaterelay.appleid.com, and that becomes the address on your account.

Coparia matches people by email address. Two things follow:

  • An invitation is tied to the address it was sent to. If your co-parent invited you at your usual address and you sign in with a hidden one, you arrive in a new, empty account with no family in it.
  • An account you already have is not found. Hiding your email creates a second account beside the first, rather than signing you in to the one your family is attached to.

If you have been invited, or already have an account, choose Share My Email when Apple asks.

Apple only asks the first time. To be asked again, open your Apple ID settings on your iPhone, select Sign in with Apple, remove Coparia from the list, and then sign in once more.

On an iPhone

Selecting Continue with Apple in the app opens Apple’s own sign in, which offers Face ID or Touch ID for the Apple ID already on the phone. You are back in the app a moment later. Nothing else needs setting up, and the same account works on the web.

If you lose access to your Apple ID

There is no self-service way back, because the account has no password to reset.

Write to support@coparia.app and we can help after checking who you are. Please do not create a second account, because your family is attached to the first one.

When it does not work

You are signed in but the app says you have no family. You have almost certainly signed in with a hidden address, or with a different Apple ID from the one the invitation was sent to. Sign out, then open the invitation again and sign in with the address it names.

Apple shows an error before you reach Coparia. If the message is on Apple’s screen, the problem is with the Apple ID rather than with Coparia, and Apple’s account recovery is the way back.

Continue with Apple is missing on your phone. It appears only on an iPhone or iPad. On other devices and in a browser, use the email and password boxes or Continue with Google.

Open this in Coparia, where you can search every article and ask about your own calendar.
